Demo walkthrough: the Neptunian mission
The demo has a short tutorial and one full mission: rebuild the human disguise of a Neptunian called Vulbreek, infiltrate Mount Rushmore, and deal with the Neptunian targets. Version 0.5.3.6 fixed an outright wrong answer in that mission's infiltration phase.
This page walks through the structure of the Legion Was Here demo and flags where the build itself has been unreliable. It names documents and objectives but not the identity puzzle answers — those are the whole game, and the demo is short enough that reading them off a page would ruin it.
The demo has the tutorial and one full mission. The full game, out October 13, 2026, has more, so treat this as the shape of a Legion Was Here mission rather than a complete walkthrough.
The tutorial
The tutorial is a guided version of the full loop with much less paperwork: a folder, the document controls, a face to build.
- The tutorial is genuinely light: one reviewer complained it went from three lightly written pages straight into a much denser case, so do not calibrate your note-taking on it.
- The tools are the same ones you get later, magnifier included.
The demo mission: Vulbreek and Mount Rushmore

The mission's brief sets out three objectives:
- Adapt the human disguise of a Neptunian called Vulbreek.
- Infiltrate Mount Rushmore.
- Eliminate the Neptunian terrorists.
The file contains, among other things, a surveillance photograph, a Neptunian magazine page featuring Vulbreek, a photograph of Vulbreek in a clown costume, a poem with a separate translation, a note about which direction Neptunians read and write, an anatomical diagram and a note on a substance's composition.
Phase one: work out the face
The costume photograph is the document most players end up staring at. One demo player wrote that matching every detail of the clown photograph to identify the target was the most satisfying part of the mission, and that a perfect score felt earned.
The reading order that works is on the dossier guide: brief first, personal material with its translation, forms and diagrams last, every number copied down. Fake clues are planted deliberately, so a document that contradicts the rest of the file is not automatically the important one.
Phase two: the operating room
You rebuild Vulbreek's human disguise across age, hairstyle, nose, eye colour and the rest, out of more than 900 million combinations. The disguise guide covers choosing efficiently. The short version: decide the face before you open the room, and let the photograph arbitrate when the text is vague.
Phase three: the infiltration
The infiltration is where the demo's bugs have done the most damage. Version 0.5.3.6 shipped with the note "Fixed a wrong answer in the infiltration phase of the Neptunian mission" — an unambiguous admission that a correct answer was once penalised here.
Players also reported that the Neptunians seem not to know which Mount Rushmore head is which, so identifying them correctly gets marked wrong, and that Abraham Lincoln was flagged as the wrong fourth head. A further report says a birthday count from a line of dialogue was marked wrong.
The second level's contradiction
Separately, players reported that the second level's hint says the Big Dipper can be seen in June while the accepted answer is August — a hint-versus-answer conflict with no in-game way to arbitrate it.
In both cases: when you are marked wrong for something you can source to a document, screenshot it and post it on the Steam board. The developer replies to bug threads personally.
Where players get stuck, and what is not a bug
| Symptom | What is actually happening | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Space plus left mouse will not flip a document | The binding is never explained | Hold left mouse, then press space |
| Small text in an image looks unreadable | Some in-image fonts are low resolution | Use the magnifier before guessing |
| Correct answer marked wrong | A hint-versus-answer conflict, or a known wrong answer | Record the document you used and report it |
| Demo freezes entering the laboratory | Reported once with a timestamped stream; no cause published | Restart and report your OS and GPU |
| Stuck on a purple screen after picking a language | Traced to ticking the no-flash option on the language screen | Do not tick that box; since fixed |
What the demo does not contain
There is no ending, no second full case and no achievement list. Anything you read elsewhere about demo endings or secret missions is describing something that does not exist in the public build.
FAQ
How many missions are in the demo?
One full mission plus the tutorial. The tutorial is a shortened version of the same loop, not a separate case.
Is the demo mission in the main game?
The Neptunian mission is the demo's case. The full game ships with more, and the missions do not unfold the same way every time.
Can I reach 100 percent in the demo?
You can score a full match, and players report trying for exactly that. Whether it counts toward anything in the full game has not been announced.
Should I replay the demo mission?
Yes if you scored badly. Missions can be redone, and a replay shows which answer cost you.
